Last week, our little buddy fell just right and ended up with a stress fracture. The X-rays showed that he had a gap between the growth plate in his ankle and his tibia bone. At first we were told that it was not broken, but after 2 1/2 days of Daniel not moving (not even crawling…or attempting to) a pediatric orthopedic doctor said it was time for a cast to heal up that gap. He told us after day or two his leg will start to feel better and that we would probably notice he starts trying to get around. Boy was he right! After 2 days Daniel started pulling up. At 3 days he was taking tiny steps and yesterday he was back to walking and even a slight jog! :) We are so happy to see him feeling better and he is now rocking the green cast look. We were disappointed that he might not be able to walk across the finish line this year at the race in Colorado, but I think he may have learned to walk in this just in time!
Here is the last week in photos:
Tuesday after spending the morning at the pediatrician and X-rays and not sleeping much the night before as Daniel was so uncomfortable...We took a nap together on the couch.
Leaving the pediatric Orthopedic doctor, Daniel was not so sure what to think of his new cast. He picked the color green...
When we arrived home the kids got busy signing and decorating his cast right away!
The first day with the cast was much like the few days before he got it, he pretty much stayed in one place and we took turns playing different things with him. Here he is playing memory (or for Daniel choose 5 cards and point at you favorite) with Drew...
He loves the big BOB (jogging stroller) so we have taken many walks and runs with him...
Giving Knuckles to Drew at Baseball...
On Monday this week he started standing!
And yesterday he took off…he has gotten even better on his feet since this video!
Sweet boy! Only 3 weeks to go!
